The ruins of Brederode Castle are located just a five-minute walk from Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg. This medieval castle was built in the late 13th century by Dirk van Brederode's son Willem and his wife Hillegonda van Voorne. It was occupied by the aristocratic "Huis Brederode" family for many years. The castle ruins now provide the perfect backdrop to various exhibitions, and a number of activities and events are held there between the months of February and September.

Spaarnwoude is home to the largest golf course in Europe. Comprising 66 holes spread over 7 courses, Spaarnwoude Golf Course is open to the general public and boasts a wide range of facilities.

Haarlem is one of the most popular shopping cities in the Netherlands. With a wide range of shops, markets and restaurants, it’s the ideal destination for a spot of retail therapy. In addition to its "big-brand" fashion stores, Haarlem is renowned for its Golden Streets. Located in the heart of the city centre, the Golden Streets encompass Zijlstraat, Koningstraat, Gierstraat, Kleine Houtstraat, Anegang, Warmoesstraat and Schagchelstraat. This bustling district features a number of independent shops and quirky boutiques housed in beautiful historic buildings.

IJmuiden is famous for its fresh fish products. Fresh fish is landed daily in the harbour and sold at the bustling fish auction. This busy fishing village is consequently home to numerous processing plants. The IJmuiden locals wax lyrical about the freshness of their fish. The fishermen make their final haul at night, before immediately setting sail for IJmuiden harbour, where their catch is delivered fresh to the auction.

The Zuid-Kennemerland National Park is a sweeping, unspoilt dunescape comprising approximately 3,800 ha. Conveniently situated between Zandvoort and Ijmuiden, this breathtaking national park presents the perfect opportunity for a walking or cycling tour through drifting sands, dune lakes, ancient oak forests and former country estates.

IJmuider beach is one of the most expansive beaches in the Netherlands and the ideal spot for soaking up some sun on a beautiful summer’s day. Its various beach cafes and bars also offer some welcome warmth and refreshment after a bracing walk along the beach during the colder months.
